Description My mermaids, all have their creation story, but let me introduce you to Lilly.
Most are born with a story to tell - and some even tell me their name.
Lilly, began with a dream of an old treasure chest setting on the sandy sea floor. A pretty, young mermaid named Lilly was sorting the booty and playing with the finds, while having tea with her friends: a dolphin and reef fish.
Her name came as part of this creative package. It is an odd side note of my creative process that this often happens with paintings. While I was drawing this piece - she kept telling me her name was Lilly like a loud whisper in my ear.
Okay, hearing voices, titles being dictated by an outside force again, how much of a fruit-loop can I be (really) and still seem fairly normal in public? It wasnt until I had finished it, and was writing the title Lilly at the bottom of the drawing, that it dawned on me what the name Lilly symbolized. I had forgotten, the original Latin definition for Lilium - flower and word, it has been the symbol for virginity, purity, beauty, and innocence, throughout history. Exactly what I wanted to portray in this drawing; child like curiosity, imagination and play.
I know, to listen to those creative voices, they always know...
This drawing is also available as a kiln-fired tile mural, in custom sizes. For more information on tile murals and original paintings visit www.savanna-art.com
